![]() But, having said that, if the hard drive won't even come up in Disk Utility when we boot from the system CD, then I assume they are completely out of luck.ġ) is there any other diagnostic to check if the hard drive is recoverable (other than booting from the CD and loading up Disk Utility) and,Ģ) are they better off shelling out for a new iMac, or simply replacing the hard drive in the existing machine (presumably far cheaper than purchasing an entirely new computer) and continuing with it as it was? ![]() While any normal person would just go out and buy a new one, they really don't have the inclination, since it was completely meeting their simple needs. My ageing parents' iMac just stopped working, which isn't totally surprising considering the age of it.
